Thinking about content warnings.
Jun. 4th, 2013 08:42 pmMy name is Morgan and I fail at being alive. I'm also thinking. Thinking a lot about triggers and warnings.
I really want an all-inclusive database for posting reviews of media with content warnings. And by all inclusive I mean, if somebody sends in a request for something to be on the list, it gets in there. Whether it's abuse, bugs, electric shocks, high-pitched noises, gore, uncomfortable explotation/stereotyping of a culture... anything that makes you leave a piece of media thinking "god, if I knew they'd done that I would never have picked it up".
I want to find a pretty way to pitch it, I want to find a decent explanation besides babbling about trying to guestimate which thrillers are too bloody for me and what movies are gonna have high-pitched noises on bad days and whether or not it might have electricity in it. But my words are kind of problematic and all I can ask is if I'm the only one who'd want something like this, both to use and to offer to others.
(My usual response is to read TV tropes and IMDB closely. But dammit, sometimes I want to watch things without spoiling myself rotten while still comforted by the knowledge that there is nothing in it that will show up in my nightmares.)
