Fans of Practical Magic, fanfiction, and/or crossovers, come here.
Sooo, does anyone know the movie Practical Magic? Witches and curses and utterly fantastic women being sisters and aunts and family with all the closeness and issues that implies?
Would anyone be interested in a ficfest that is "cross over all the things and make all the awesome women in any and every fandom Owens witches"? I'm thinking either commentfest style or ficathon style.
Feel free to suggest ways it should be done, spread the word, or anything else. I want to see what kind of audience might exist for this, but even if it's a small one it might still happen. Because OWENS.
EDIT: It looks like this is happening, so please feel free to spread the word far and wide. Also please feel free to come in here and offer opinions: I'm still not sure what kind of fic fest to do, and whether it should be exclusively female-centric, or whether focus on male characters should be allowed. If you have suggestions for either of those things, I'd love to hear them.
(Note on format: Exchange-style is out because I haven't got the mental capability to deal with working that out. Pretty much anything else is fair game.)

My guess is that it would work better with a series like Gilmore Girls than with something like Charmed, but I see potential everywhere.

I don't know. Liked the movie and all, not sure I've got any sort of time our chops to deal with crossover fic, no matter how much I might enjoy it.

Understandable! Crossovers are not everyone's thing and I totally get not having the time to write. You'd be welcome to come offer ideas even if you don't have time to write, whether it's a commentfest or a prompt/inspiration drop-off at a ficathon. At this point I just want to know if there's enough interest to be plausible, or if I should just sit in my own little fic corner and do it myself.

Other things I'd need to figure out, and I am listing them at you to have them down:
> Whether it's going to be female-centric or not by rules and, if male-centric stories are allowed, if we're gonna stick with the implied rule in the movie that only the Owens women are witches.
> If it is female-centric, if genderswap or non-canon trans characters are allowed.
> If it's all going to be fic or not (probably not for sheerly selfish reasons, I'd love to do Owens family graphics. >> I'd do a little bang honestly, with writers and artists, if I thought there'd be enough interest, but I don't, soooo).
> If it's commentfest, if there's a deadline. If it's ficathon, the kind of timeline I'm looking at. Also, length minimums.

However, the innate magic aspect is one I prefer to use in much of my original writing... with greater effects being the ones that have greater costs. But simple manipulations? It's just will and application.

Innate magic, especially through willpower, is one of my favorite ways to go about it. And I think Practical Magic, with its little applications of raw power, is possibly my second-favorite movie for it. The first being Halloweentown, for outright stating that "Magic is very simple, all you need to do is want something and let yourself have it". :D
It honestly reminds me more of what I was taught about real-world magic than most media forms: That most of it is will and believing and energy, and that the bells and whistles and chants are there to help you focus your mind and your own, internal energy; they don't do anything without your energy behind it.

I do not have Netflix and I like physical copies of media anyway. On the wishlist it goes!
